November 2005 Mission Trips

El Salvador
On Wednesday November 9, 12 adults from local churches and 12 students from Valley Christian went to El Salvador for a 5-day work and witness trip.  They worked with a Salvadoran partner agency called ANAES - Association for the new Dawn of El Salvador to provide relief for the floods that ravaged El Salvador in recent months.  They also worked in a region called Sonsonante to build a grain storehouse in a poor community that is struggling to raise their standard of living.

Thank you to all who contributed to the $6,200 cost of the grain storehouse.  With your help we were able to raise the entire amount.  Thank you also to those who contributed money and medical supplies to assist flood victims.  Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

The seven Bethany members on the El Salvador ministry team were Deborah Schmidt, Amy Hoekstra, Adam & Tina Cram, Harry Prins, Henry Mariotti and Pastor Dave Jeltema.

Honduras
The following week, Nov. 14-22, another group of 8 people from Bethany, Trinity and First Bellflower CRC's went to Honduras to work with our missionaries Ken and Sally Vanderwal.  They spent a week in the community of Juticalpa, a mid-sized city of 40,000 people in eastern Honduras.  They worked with the members of the Barrio de Jesus CRC to improve their church building.  Thank you to those who contributed to the cost of the materials for this project.  Those attending from Bethany were Pam Eaker, Harold Bonnema, Iris Wybenga and Pastor Dave Jeltema.
